What is Aniracetam?

Aniracetam (1-[(4-methoxyphenyl)]-2-pyrrolidinone) is a Piracetam analogue with a higher potency. Aniracetam is up to 5 times more potent than Piracetam, which makes it a great choice for more experienced nootropics users looking to maximise their brain’s potential. Aniracetam has been shown to have various positive effects. Specifically, it improves cognition, reduce levels of anxiety (anxiolytic effect) and prevent neurocognitive conditions in animal and human studies. Other reported benefits include improved memory, better visual recognition and rational thinking.

Aniracetam activates cholinergic neurons and thus increase neuronal transmission. Dysfunction of cholinergic system is linked to certain memory and learning impairments. Therefore, as described in greater detail below, Aniracetam plays a very important in memory formation and maintenance. Also, due to its effects on AMPA receptors in the brain, Aniracetam is sometimes referred to as ampakine nootropic (see below).

Key benefits:

  • Cognitive activator
  • Improved creativity
  • Enhanced memory
  • Anti-depression & anti-anxiety effect
  • Neuroprotective effects

Long-term effects of Aniracetam:

Aniracetam provides acute effects that are felt as fast as 15 minutes post-ingestion. This is faster than some other racetams. However, neuroenhancing and neuroprotective effects do not last for a very long period of time. In fact, Aniracetam’s concentration peaks within 1 hour after consumption and it has a half-life of less than 2 hours. Therefore, it is important to make sure that Aniracetam is taken on a regular basis for a prolonged period of time. This will help to build up the long-term effects. Noticeable cognitive and neuroprotective changes may take weeks to develop, while full benefits can be months away.

A longer time required to achieve cognitive and neuroprotective benefits is attributed to its methods of action. Aniracetam affects glutamate and acetylcholine neurotransmitters over short-term, but real changes in these processes are only observed after prolonged continuous use. In terms of actual long-term benefits, Aniracetam is neuroprotective as it helps to maintain the healthy condition of the brain cells. Furthermore, continuous use of Aniracetam helps to grow new synapses between neurons. Aniracetam is therefore a good product to enhance cognition and combat the natural mental decline.

To test if Aniracetam is working for you take regular mental tests that can be found online. However, the best indicator is your ability to cope with daily cognitively demanding tasks either at work or college/university. Simply observe any changes in your efficiency when performing cognitive tasks. Test your cognitive functions on a regular basis under different circumstances so you can analyse the results and monitor changes over time. This will give you a pretty clear assessment of your mental capabilities and memory enhancing effects.

Recommended dosage:

The recommended daily dosage is between 1000-1500 mg taken in 2 equal administrations over the course of a day. Studies show that Aniracetam has a very short therapeutic window. Its concentration in the system returns to baseline values within 1 hour. Aniracetam is quickly absorbed from the intestinal tract. Because Aniracetam is fat-soluble, the body metabolises it very quickly.

Obviously, this has implications for the timing of administration, which should be planned around your personal schedule so that its effects can be optimised. Additionally, for maximal results you should not wait longer than 3 hours in between administrations. Interestingly, Aniracetam dosages that are well over the recommended range may have counterproductive effects. Therefore, it is important to follow the recommendations and adjust them according to your personal needs and tolerance. Finally, Aniracetam is a fat-soluble compound that should be taken with a fat containing meal. Alternatively, Aniracetam can be mixed and consumed with milk. Taking Aniracetam on an empty stomach is not advised as the active ingredients will simply pass through the digestive system thereby reducing its bioavailability.

Buying Aniracetam in bulk powder:

Despite the convenience of taking capsules, there are a few good reasons why you might want to consider buying Aniracetam in bulk powder. First of all, buying Aniracetam in bulk is a cheaper option out of two. In fact, you can cut your spending on Aniracetam by more than a half, if you choose powder. Second reason is dosage. Capsules provide you with a standard dosage every time you take them, which may not always be the most suitable option. For example, if you are a big fan of stacks (i.e., using different nootropic compounds simultaneously whilst experimenting with different doses) it would be make more sense to buy Aniracetam in powder form.

Mechanisms of action:

Although all mechanisms are not fully understood, scientists identified a number of processes and pathways that are affected by Aniracetam.

Firstly, it increases the hippocampal levels of serotonin, glutamate, dopamine and acetylcholine. This demonstrates that Aniracetam works by activating cholinergic, serotonergic and dopaminergic neuronal systems. These systems regulate mood, memory, behaviour and general cognition and ensure their optimal function. For instance, dopamine is a major neurotransmitter that influences a number of cognitive functions and body movements.

Secondly, Aniracetam modulates glutamate receptors, particularly the AMPA, in the brain. Glutamate is a very important excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It can be found in various brain structures. Modulation of glutamate receptors result in an increase of AMPA and calcium uptake in the brain. The AMPA-receptors play a very important role in the phenomenon known as long-term potentiation (LTP) formation in the brain. The LTP is the pathway involved in the acquisition and maintenance of new memories. Therefore, any distribution to this pathway can eliminate the formation of new memories.

Lastly, studies demonstrate that Aniracetam increases cerebral blood flow. This enhances the supply and use of all important nutrients. 5 main metabolites in Aniracetam are: anisic acid, p-methoxyhippuric acid, 2-pyrrolidinone, conjugate s of glycine and glucuronide and succinimide.

Side effects of Aniracetam:

Aniracetam is a safe and non-toxic nootropic. However, it is important follow the recommended dosages. One of the few occasionally reported side effects is headache, which is pretty common following racetams use. Headaches can be prevented by supporting with Aniracetam with a source of choline (e.g., Alpha GPC or Choline Bitartrate). Other very rare side effects are restlessness and insomnia.

So far, so good . .
Bought this product for my 17 year old son, after researching online for help with ADHD - Inattentive Type, without going down the medical route. He has taken it for 4 days so far, and seems to think he is concentrating a bit better. Only time will tell if it really makes much of a difference. Delivery was extremely quick and well packaged. I will be back if it works!
